Slave To The Thrill

I’ve caught a lot of flack for this image over the years, so much so that it was rarely even in my portfolio. But anyone who knows me – knows my love for all things Sci-Fi. From Blade Runner, Forbidden Planet, Metropolis, to H.R. Giger…
And while the main release of this album cover was just the empty chair, this full version was also an actual release. Randal did a fantastic job on the miniature chair (but that kind of goes without saying). I set up two 4×5 cameras side by side in the back of my L.A. studio, kept going back and forth with a piece of acetate from the miniature set to the real-sized version chair with the model. Got everything lit identically and sized perfectly in-camera (two pieces of large format film), then Hugh did his cut paste and airbrush magic on two 20×24 fiber prints!
Yeah, pretty cool taking the time to set everything up 1 to 1 in the camera right from the get-go; sometimes I still miss the darkroom; other times, not so much…
