Old Hollywood Light Company Celebrates Ten Years of Its Etsy Store, Offering Restored Vintage Hollywood Lighting for your Home & Office
After 30 years as a commercial photographer, John Scarpati, founder of Old Hollywood Light Company, is thrilled to announce the tenth anniversary of his online Etsy store. The store offers a curated collection of meticulously restored vintage lighting from Hollywood’s storied past. Once a working tool on legendary movie sets, each piece is now available for homeowners and interior designers looking to add a touch of timeless glamour to their spaces.
“I’ve always believed that light is the magic behind a great image,” said Scarpati, who spent decades utilizing light in his commercial photography work. “Now, I’m turning my passion for light into something new: reclaiming and restoring the movie lights that shaped Hollywood’s golden era. These lights helped define the future of film, and now they can add drama to your home.”
Old Hollywood Light Company specializes in converting classic movie lights from Bardwell McAllister and Mole Richardson, two of Hollywood’s most legendary manufacturers, into modern home fixtures. These vintage lights are lovingly restored, rebuilt, and rewired to meet modern electrical standards while preserving their original charm
What Makes Old Hollywood Light Company Unique:
- Immaculate Restoration: Every light is dismantled, cleaned, stripped, refinished, and rebuilt from the ground up—no detail is overlooked. “Restoring these old beauties is a labor of love,” said Scarpati. “It’s not just about making them work again; it’s about preserving their character and history.”
- One-of-a-Kind Hollywood History: Scarpati’s collection features rare, vintage pieces made between the 1930s and 1960s, complete with period-correct stands. These aren’t mass-produced knockoffs; they are the real deal.
- Authenticity and Patina: “I don’t over-polish these lights,” Scarpati explains. “I believe the beauty is in the history—the dents, the patina, the character. The more you look, the more you realize how truly special they are.”
- Affordable Luxury: Despite their rare origins and painstaking restoration, these lights often cost less than the mass-produced replicas sold in upscale stores. This makes them a true bargain for collectors and design enthusiasts alike.
“I’ve always had an admiration for the ‘wise elders’ of Hollywood’s early days,” said Scarpati. “These movie lights used on set by the legends of the past are getting harder to find. But that’s what makes the hunt so exciting. When you hold one of these lights, you’re holding a piece of history. They aren’t just functional—they carry the weight of the stories they’ve helped tell.”
To celebrate the Etsy store’s 10th anniversary, Old Hollywood Light Company is offering a 10% discount on all orders placed in January 2025. Use code HOLLYWOOD10 at checkout.

Reclaim Restore Repurpose
Reclaiming vintage Hollywood lights one fixture at a time…
If I’ve learned anything as a photographer, it’s that light performs the magic.
Shaping the light—its brightness, color, contrast, direction, and the symbolic use of light and shadow— the real magician here is light itself.
I’ve always had an affinity for the behemoth wise elders of Hollywood’s beginnings. The really good ones are getting harder to find, but that makes me try harder to find them.
In the spirit of the modern resurgence of “small batch” brands, the industrial artifacts reclamation movement has inspired me to begin a project to pay homage to this legendary hardware from Hollywood’s past. How? By bringing pieces from this storied past into the present.
The vintage lights exude an unparalleled sense of aesthetics and rich history. My job now is to curate and convert these units into modern home electrics. I carefully refurbish and restore them in limited quantities for true connoisseurs, with fine attention to detail.
How did all this come together? Well, after 30 years as a commercial photographer, I’ve finally gotten my first hobby!
I wanted to be a painter and a rock star. I ended up being neither.
